Abstract:

Through the last century, the discovery of oil has affected the lifestyle of Saudi Arabia from different angles: socially, economically, culturally, and politically. Accordingly the designs of contemporary houses, interior and exterior, in Saudi Arabia were changed to reflect the changes of lifestyle. The research goes through different stages of understanding; privacy as a term and its importance, traditional architecture and its development, representing privacy inside Saudi houses. Qualitative methodology is applied in the built of the research. Ethnography tools will be utilized to assist in getting a better knowledge of the current status of the culture, society and understanding of over changing and developing concept; privacy. The resulted knowledge can help generate designs for a more socially acceptable house.
