Abstract:

This presentation will explore the rise of the role of the offender profiler within serious crime investigation, predominantly in relation to murder, rape and other serious sexual offences. It will discuss the change in focus from offender profiling to behavioural investigative advice, considering some of the myths and realities associated with the role. It will detail the current services provided by Behavioural Investigative Advisors in the UK, and briefly consider how evaluative research has demonstrated improvements in the provision of such advice in recent years.
