Abstract:

This paper presents the current stage of work exploring the potential impact the Semantic Web will have on the personal privacy of individuals. The argument presented is that personal privacy should become part of the underlying architecture for the Semantic Web in order to limit the vulnerability of individuals. Issues of vulnerability are presented along with the current body of thought from the legal, social and technical perspectives. The paper concludes with the direction for further research where the design of a semantic web tool will address the issues faced by vulnerable groups and individuals.
