Abstract:

The growth of business to business interaction on the Internet can be seen to evolve from EDI, through Internet EDI, to the current state of the art - Service Oriented Architecture. Based upon accepted standards, web services provide a platform for the implementation of such architecture. Systematic evaluation of the implementation of a test service oriented architecture highlights both benefits and problems with the current technology. When considering the emerging second generation standards the lessons learned from this study are still entirely relevant. © 2005 University of the Aegean and University of Plymouth.
