Dates: 7 July 2025

Abstract:

The SUNRISE project is a collaborative project between BU and Universiti Sains Malaysia, funded by the British Council. It aims to build capacity for sustainability research and inspire sustainability practices through cross-institutional events. SUNRISE celebrates research and actions which address local and global challenges.

We share the outcomes of the project and introduce the next SUNRISE collaborative venture: SUNRISE Sustainability card games. Gaming approaches offer a novel approach to engage students breaking down cultural barriers, inviting deep discussion and setting the stage for a meaningful reflection. The SUNRISE Sustainability card games initiative is inspired by one of the winning projects of the PRME UK & Ireland Seed Funding Competition for Developing Innovative Pedagogies and Teaching Practices. We are joined by one of the creators of the Sustainability card games, David Anderson from Lincoln University, who will introduce a series of scalable teaching and learning innovations have been developed which are easily adaptable to different subjects.

The Pecha Kucha session will be followed up by a hands-on workshop run by David and the SUNRISE team after the conference (2-3pm on 7 July), where participants will have the opportunity to experience the full set of sustainable and reusable learning resources developed by the PRME project and contribute to the design of the SUNRISE Sustainability cards games.
