Abstract:

This paper explores the career motivations and career commitment in the conventions and exhibitions industry in two key MICE markets, the United Kingdom and Australia. After an introduction to the concepts of career commitment and motivations, the paper presents empirical research findings in three main areas. These are; what motivates individuals to select a career in the industry, what motivates people to stay in the industry, and evidence of career commitment using information on career mobility and job attitudes. The findings reveal a number of similarities and differences between the UK and Australia, which form the basis for further research. © 2002 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
