Abstract:

The end of the Iron Age in Dorset is often portrayed as a violent affair, with the Roman II Augusta legion marching to each and every hillfort, systematically slaughtering the population and destroying settlements in the process, but was it really like that? Recent work on Bournemouth University's Durotriges Project suggests it things were very different So, how was life (and death) for the people of the Iron Age Durotriges and what are new excavations, fieldwork and research telling us?
