Biography

Dr Dalia Malek is a Research Fellow for the UKRI-funded research project Mass Grave Protection, Investigation, and Engagement (MaGPIE) within the Department of Humanities and Law where she contributes research on mass graves linked to migration and human trafficking.

She holds a PhD in Law from King’s College London, as well as a master's in International Human Rights Law and a Graduate Diploma in Forced Migration and Refugee Studies from the American University in Cairo. She also holds Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and has previously researched and taught International Migration and Refugee Law at the University of Edinburgh School of Law.

Beyond academic work, she has had extensive professional experience in human rights, having held positions at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and various non-governmental organisations, working directly with refugees and asylum-seekers in the areas of legal aid, refugee status determination, resettlement, and immigration detention, as well as conducting legal research on issues of forced labour, citizenship, and forced migration.
