Duplicating source materials into new ‘copies’ is the fundamental activity involved in film restoration. OPENING PANDORA’S BOX takes the 2008 restoration of silent classic PANDORA’S BOX (GE 1929, G.W. Pabst) as an illustrative example to discuss the cultural practices that go hand in hand with the interconnected concepts of copyright, public domain, and public accessibility.
