Biography
I completed my BSc (Hons) in Psychology at Bournemouth in 2013. After a period of working in secure forensic psychiatric services, I attained an MSc in Research Methods in Psychology (2016), and a PhD in Psychology (2020) at Swansea University. Before returning to Bournemouth, I held research and teaching roles at Swansea University and King’s College London, contributing to research across gambling-related harm, mental health, and military health. My work has involved interdisciplinary and applied research with academic, clinical, and policy relevance, particularly in relation to gambling harm, psychological wellbeing, and at-risk populations. I am also a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
Research
My research focuses on gambling-related harm and its intersection with mental health, technology, and other risk behaviours. I am particularly interested in gambling among military and veteran populations, young people and emerging adults. I'm also interested in emerging digital gambling environments including gambling livestreams, gaming, and gambling-like features within video games. My work examines psychological factors associated with gambling harm, including trauma, anxiety, and emotion regulation, alongside the measurement and assessment of gambling behaviour and harms.
I use a mix of methodological approaches, including survey research, psychometric and latent variable modelling, and qualitative methods. I am also interested in the application of computational and digital methods to understanding gambling behaviour and online communities.
