Abstract:

Editorial note: This report describes visits to a number of centres in the United States in which research on functional electrical stimulation and related topics is in progress. Many projects are discussed in some detail. Further details of the projects, the principal workers involved and equipment suppliers are available from the author. The article is an edited version of a report of the visit 31st prepared by Dr Swain for the Biological Engineering Society, UK. Through a special arrangement with the publisher, a reprint of this article will be sent to each member of the Society free of charge.
