This paper identifies the current tendencies in European sport tourism marketing and concentrates on the prevailing marketing strategies that European marketers deploy to seize sport tourism market opportunities. It then considers the likely future directions of European sport tourism marketing. It stresses that while flexibility and adaptability are the essential ingredients of the future successful European sport tourism marketing, creativity, customisation, communication and connectivity will grow in importance as the sources of competitive advantage that European sport tourism marketers will need to exploit.
