Journal: The megalithic chambered tombs of the Cotswold- Severn region: an assessment of certain architectural elements and their relation to ritual practice and Neolithic society.

Abstract:

Having reviewed previous studies of Megalithic tombs, and those in this part of western England in particular, the author examines the evidence for their date and development. A description of the architectural elements that prevented access to the tomb introduces a reconstruction of the geographical distribution of the construction and concealment elements. A discussion of the social pattern of the Neolithic in the Cotswold-Severn area, and of the future of the tombs and their study, is followed by two appendices: a gazetteer of the principal sites and a classification of the barrow types. -J.Sheail
