Abstract:

As research adapts to complex societal and interdisciplinary challenges, qualitative approaches—particularly creative and participatory methods—have gained prominence for fostering inclusive, collaborative inquiry. Grounded in constructivist and constructionist theories, Lego® Serious Play® (LSP) employs tactile, metaphorical model-building to prompt reflection, meaning-making, and dialogue. Comparing Lego® Serious Play® with narrative inquiry, arts-based research, visual elicitation, and design thinking highlights its potential to enhance interdisciplinary thinking, engagement, and co-created knowledge. Whether applied independently or within hybrid designs, Lego® Serious Play® can enrich participatory research by broadening accessibility, deepening insight, and integrating multiple perspectives, making it a valuable tool for contemporary, inclusive methodologies.
