Biography
Since 2015, Nigel Jump has been Professor of Regional Economic Development at Bournemouth University, working with the Office of the Vice Chancellor to engage with local businesses/other organisations and to research economic development of the local economy.
Between 2012 and 2018, he was Executive Director & Chief Economist, for Strategic Economics Ltd. He provided professional economics/intelligence services across the public/private spectrum of economic development and macro planning. He offered bespoke advice/analysis for a range of clients, including local authorities, LEPs, business organisations, professional services & manufacturing companies, universities, the media & social enterprises.
Formerly, Nigel was a Visiting Professor in Regional Economics at the University of Plymouth, teaching applied economics and working with the Regional Economic Development (RED) team in the Business School. He was also Visiting Professor in Economics for the University of Bath, specialising in macro, international and regional economic development...
Between 2003 and 2011, Nigel was Chief Economist/Head of Economics & Evidence for the SW of England RDA & Head of the Economy Module at the SW Observatory, leading a regional network of intelligence professionals and policy makers. Before that, he was a Senior Economist with Barclays and an Economic Adviser to Swiss Volksbank. He worked as an economist for the RSPB (environmental NGO), was a research tutor at the University of Durham and senior lecturer at Liverpool Polytechnic (Liverpool John Moores University).
