Abstract:

This chapter introduces the use of art-informed installations as a way to showcase or (re)present research data with an aim of educating sport coaches on challenging topics. We draw attention to literature surrounding art-informed immersive pedagogy and further the context of abuse in sport. The chapter then provides an overview of a coach education event entitled “Ways of Seeing Sport Coaching Violence” that embodied this method. The event adopted an innovative, immersive, sensory art-based method not traditionally utilized in sport coach education (but widely used in other ‘caring’ professions) to bring research knowledge to life and allow coaches and other practitioners to engage with data in a dynamic manner. We include reflections on adopting the method and how such an approach could result in more sustainable coaching practice surrounding the topic of athlete welfare in sport. Finally, we consider the potential of interactive approaches to sharing data on sensitive topics within future practitioner education contexts and in the delivery of sustainable education practices
