Abstract:

This chapter explores the intricate dynamics between poverty and event and festival attendance and alongside the lens of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 1 (UNSDG 1) – No Poverty. Recent studies reveal financial barriers to festival participation, exacerbated by economic challenges globally, lead to events and festivals being a luxury for impoverished individuals. Overcoming these financial barriers requires proactive initiatives, outreach, and payment plans. While some festivals facilitate access, lower economic standing reduces accessibility. Despite the UK’s advanced economy status, persistent inequalities challenge policies, emphasising the festival sector’s potential to address societal bonds, well-being, and skill development, pending proactive and willing efforts.
