Abstract:Chapter 1 includes six case studies that consider how in Higher Education, academics are increasingly using applications of technology, such as animation, simulation, and visualization, to bring their teaching ‘to life’, and to help their students to understand concepts and principles which are otherwise difficult to grasp. The case studies in this chapter include examples of digital visualization tools to create virtual field trips, virtual laboratories to develop problem solving skills, emerging technologies to support teaching practice, learning technology designs for immersive discussion, holographic 3D representations as teaching tools to improve visualization and understanding, and the use of immersive technologies for professional practice learning.
