Abstract:

Regenerative approaches to tourism business operations are becoming increasingly necessary due to the extent of climate change and its impact on socio-ecological systems. Given the scale of the tourism industry, there is an opportunity to have a positive impact on nature and society, which are key components of the tourism experience. The personal values that business leaders have can shape the approach an organisation takes to all aspects of the business operations and can guide the behaviour within the organisation that leads to action. Recognising that regenerative practice is a process, not an end goal, enables businesses to shift their business model to a regenerative one over time and continue to evolve into the future. Furthermore, adapting a cooperative and collaborative approach to multi-stakeholder inclusion can benefit the organisation as well as the wider socio-ecological system and support a virtuous circle of profit and purpose.
