Biography

Jenn Durrett is the Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Film at Bournemouth University. Her research centres on exploring ways to use film and filmmaking in positive, socially proactive ways. Her current work looks at how practical film education can serve forcibly displaced youth by using creative expression as both a coping mechanism and for personal development.

Durrett received her PhD in Media and Film Studies from SOAS, University of London in 2019. She also holds an M.Phil in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation from Trinity College Dublin (2012) and received her BFA in Film and Television from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2010.

Before transitioning to academia, Durrett worked in the film industry in New York City and Los Angeles in a variety of departments, including Script Supervising, Editing, and Producing. Her credits include After Spring (2016, Co-Producer) and Academy Award-nominated documentary The Square (2013, post production assistant).

In addition to her teaching in higher education, Durrett has also taught as a facilitator in Jordan with Another Kind of Girl Collective, a media arts collective for and by young women living in displaced, migrant or transitory communities around the world...
