Abstract:

Report from a pilot study where teenagers with SEND were offered training and educational experiences in a UK university's television productions studio. The studio visits were followed-up with creative research activities at the teenagers' SEND school, and interviews with teachers and teaching assistants. Initial results have been very promising, with the young people responding very well to the structure and environment of working in a creative space. Teachers and TAs also reported a growing in confidence. Two of the participants also collaborated in writing a screenplay - having not had the confidence to work with others up until now. Further research will include another SEND school, with a plan to create work for the Oska Bright Film Festival.
