A process cycle for learning anaytics

Authors: Kitchenham, A., Holley, D. and Biggins, D.

Conference: FLIE conference 2025

Abstract:

Learning analytics (LA) is a highly contested field with multiple stakeholders. It is implemented and used in very different ways by Higher Education institutions. Emerging trends point to how LA is increasingly embedded within day-to-day activities that encompass learners, educators and the institution. The learning analytics process cycle (LAPC), developed at BU, is a structured sequence of stages that explain how the learning gain for students is linked to the number of stages completed and how they are approached. The poster covers the steps of collection; collation; interpretation cognition; action and reaction and links the cycle to learning gain
