Lindsay's research, education, and enterprise activity are all centred around concept of fundamental nursing care (including health inequalities, and inclusion health), respiratory nursing, respiratory diagnostics and the development and inclusion of technology in respiratory practice to disrupt traditional diagnostic pathways.
Lindsay’s research and enterprise programme is divided into three workstreams:
Workstream 1: Fundamental care in nursing practice, current domain of focus include: Communication (health professional to people who are receiving care, HCP to medical professional), Privacy and dignity, Humanising care, breathing... This workstream includes the exploration of new models of nursing care.

Workstream 3: Industry and enterprise, designing developing and implementing digital innovations using ubiquitous technology in respiratory care (consultancy). Using AI and machine learning systems to early diagnosis and facilitate self-management in respiratory conditions, in global settings.
Current research includes supervision of studies into learning disabilities/neurodiversity in health care, the use of Forced Oscillation Technique in the clinical pathway and health literacy in COPD.
In 2022 Lindsay, and Dr Chauhan (UoS) were awarded Higher Education Innovation funding through the Institute of Life Sciences to explore digital biomarkers through respiratory lung sounds, through ubiquitous technology, this has since been published ISCA Archive (isca-speech.org).
Lindsay is chairing a pulmonary rehabilitation education national working group aligned to the BTS and IPRG, and conceptualisation with colleagues; the ARRA National Respiratory Network Background to Academic Respiratory Research Alliance (ARRA) – Respiratory research (wordpress.com).
