Biography
Alex Caton-Bradley is a Doctoral Researcher in the School of Psychology at Bournemouth University whose work sits at the intersection of social psychology and neuroscience. His research focuses on developing an integrative understanding of masculinity using a mixed methods approach. He is particularly interested in how social experiences, identity, and context shape behaviour.
Alongside his doctoral research, Alex has worked as a research assistant including work on gambling-related harms and local behaviour-change initiatives. He has experience using both quantitative and qualitative methods and is committed to producing research that is methodologically rigorous and socially meaningful.
Alex is also engaged in university governance and student leadership. He serves on the Trustee board of the Student Union at Bournemouth University (SUBU) and has held multiple representative roles, contributing to strategy, education, and research culture discussions across the institution.
In addition to his academic work, Alex is involved in research and innovation in industry... He supports AirDrate Ltd., a company developing in-flight ear pain solutions, contributing to research, evaluation, and evidence generation to support product development and regulatory approval.
Beyond academia, Alex is interested in making research accessible to wider audiences. He is involved in science communication, public engagement, and consultancy work that helps organisations use evidence-based approaches to decision-making. His long-term goal is to bridge academic research, policy, and practice to improve outcomes in education, mental health, and society more broadly.

My Current research involves developing a novel model for masculinity that spans sociology, psychology and neuroscience. Qualitative work is currently underway to inductively explore social and psychological foundations. This work will be used to inform work using Q-Methodology, neuroimaging techniques and behavioural studies to develop a more nuanced and contemporary understanding of masculinity in young men.
This research will give way to future research in men's mental health, gender studies, education and forensic settings that seeks to use interdisciplinary approaches when discussing men and masculinity, which is increasingly important.
