Biography
Dawid Pekalski is a final year PhD postgraduate at Bournemouth University's Department of Psychology and Department of Humanities and Law. He obtained his MA in International Political Communication and currently works as a lecturer and researcher in the aforementioned department. He teaches across several undergraduate and master’s programmes, including BA Politics, BA Politics and Economics, MA Political Psychology, and MA International Political Communication. His areas of expertise and teaching, include Political Marketing and Campaigning, Public Diplomacy and International Relations, Philosophy of Politics, Political Economy, Debates in Contemporary Politics, and Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods.
During his PhD research, he examined citizens' engagement, focusing on their ability to override heuristic-driven responses, the level of attention they pay to a decision, and their capacity to disentangle complex, often contrasting, data in the fake news environment. His research adopts an interdisciplinary approach that combines the fields of political science, communication/marketing, psychology, and neuroscience, and applies methods from these fields...
He's research interests lie in the fields of politics, marketing, communication and psychology, with a particular emphasis on citizens' political attitudes, political decision-making, and rationality in the post-truth era, as well as how to influence social change.
He has participated in externally funded interdisciplinary research projects, including collaborations with:
• Audencia Business School in Nantes, France, HORIZON 2020 funded project "OPTED: Observatory for Political Text in European democracies," 2021
• Bournemouth University, UKRI -Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded project: “ArtoP: The Visual Articulation of Politics in Nigeria”. 2021
• Bournemouth University, British Academy-funded project “Understanding the Production Management Skills Gap in UK TV” 2023
His most recent research project investigates the spread of disinformation and conspiracy theories, as well as trust in the UK Government, during the COVID-19 crisis.
