Biography

I joined the Department as Professor of Psychology in August 2016. Previously, I held posts at the University of Bath and the University of Kent at Canterbury. I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Exeter and received my PhD from St George’s Hospital Medical School, University of London in 1994, before spending a few years living in California and working in the Psychosocial Laboratory at Stanford University School of Medicine. I am a registered Health Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

I have an established programme of interdisciplinary research examining the effects of psychosocial factors, particularly stress, coping and social support, on endocrine functioning across a range of acute and chronic health conditions in adults and children.
