Biography
Roberta Discetti is Senior Lecturer in Management at the Business School, Bournemouth University. She holds a BA in philosophy (University of Naples), a MA in philosophy (University of Siena) and an MSc in Business and Society communication (University of Bologna). She has completed a PhD in Business ethics at the University of Portsmouth, with a study on Fairtrade certification and consumer activism in Fairtrade Towns.
Her research revolves around ethical consumption, market-based activism, and social movements campaigning for sustainable and equitable food systems. She has worked in the context of different EU-funded projects on sustainable food systems, such as Strength2Food and FoodMapp. She is also co-founder and co-lead of the Research Seminar Cycle 'Socio-Ecological Transition Seminars'.
Being very keen on academia-NGOs collaboration, she has worked with several NGOs in the UK and abroad, including the Fairtrade Foundation in London and the Fair Trade Advocacy Office in Brussels. Since 2017, she is an active member of the International Fair Trade Symposium Steering Committee and has collaborated to the organisation of the Symposium in 2018, 2020, 2023 and 2025.
