Biography
Mili joined Bournemouth University after her PhD from the University of Jena in Germany on a scholarship from the German Science Foundation and the Max Planck Institute of Economics. Professors Uwe Cantner and David Audretsch supervised her dissertation. During her PhD, Mili was a visiting researcher at the London School of Economics at STICERD ( Suntory and Toyota International Centre for Economics and Related Disciplines). Before PhD in Germany, Mili studied Mathematics at Miranda House College, Delhi University, and IIT Delhi, specialising in Applied Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. Mili works in Sustainability, Circular Economy, Decarbonisation, Green entrepreneurship, Green Strategies, Inclusivity, Women and technology, and Women's enterprise. She is an emerging thought leader in Sustainable Business and Gender, with her work published in leading ABS-ranked journals. In addition to high-quality journals, she contributes through thought pieces to reputed media outlets such as The Conversation... Her articles in The Conversation on Women Entrepreneurship and Green Practices are reprinted by reputed forums such as the World Economic Forum and read widely. Mili provided evidence to the UK Parliament committee on the inquiry on improving diversity in STEM. At Bournemouth University, Mili initiated and co-founded the Centre for Sustainable Business Transformations and currently serves as Deputy Head of the Centre. She works with local, national, and global businesses, organisations, and universities on various interdisciplinary projects that address challenges for a sustainable future. Mili also serves on the advisory board of a couple of UK tech companies.
Mili was selected as a panel member for the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Interdisciplinary Assessment College, which was set up by UKRI to support the new UKRI cross-research council responsive mode pilot scheme that is designed to help new interdisciplinary ideas emerge from the research community outside current disciplinary boundaries.
Mili's leadership extends to the Hacking for Sustainability Course, a final-year undergraduate course she leads. This course, which focuses on solving challenging sustainability problems faced by the Ministry of Defence, not only educates but also inspires the next generation of sustainability leaders.
Mili's expertise and thought leadership have been recognised with several prestigious awards. She was awarded the Outstanding Women's Researcher Award for her thought leadership articles and policy briefings on gender issues and sustainability in business from Venus International Foundation. Additionally, she was honoured with the Education in Sustainable Development award in 2024 for her leadership in guiding final year undergraduate projects that tackled real-world sustainability challenges within the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
In 2018, Mili organised a Women Entrepreneurs and Innovators conference at Bournemouth University that brought together leading academic scholars and practitioners to BU. In 2017-18, she convened the start-up support program for prospective student entrepreneurs at the Bournemouth Business School. Mili led a charity impact project on ethnic women empowerment in 2020 that supported ethnic women's transition to employment and entrepreneurship.
She welcomes inquiries from prospective PhD applicants interested in conducting qualitative or quantitative research surrounding Sustainability, Greening, Gender, and Entrepreneurship.
