Biography

Una's first undergraduate degree was from the National University of Ireland, Galway in Experimental Physics. Una returned to higher education to become a Paramedic and was awarded a distinction from Bournemouth University FdSc in Paramedic Science in 2010. Una has worked for South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust as a Band 6 Paramedic and as a Paramedic Lead for Education in both full-time and bank positions. Una began working in Bournemouth University in 2019 as a Skills Demonstrator for the Paramedic Science BSc degree programme and in 2023 Una was promoted to Lecturer in Paramedic Science.

Una has experience teaching across levels 4, 5 and 6. She is course lead in delivering Simulation Based Education. Enhancing and innovating simulation practice is a key area of her research, along with student welfare and wellbeing. She prides herself on student engagement and uses technology enhanced learning (TEL) to continue to innovate simulation pedagogies within the Paramedic Science team and the wider Health and Social Sciences Faculty at Bournemouth University...
